S&P 500 4’405,80 +5,53.

After a weak opening, the stock market managed to limit losses and closed slightly higher. We observed some selling pressure as measured by our buying/selling index, prices didn’t reflect internal momentum which closed on a very weak note: only 968 stocks advanced on the NYSE whereas 2’350 closed down. The list of new highs/new lows is also suffering on the NYSE and even more on the Nasdaq. Options traders are buying puts at a more tepid pace than during the last few months, hedging their long exposure or playing the potential downside of the market. The weekly survey among professional active traders points out also to a more cautious attitude from this category of investors although the index hasn’t reached the neutral level yet.
