S&P 500 4326,51 -23,42.
The stock market tried to rally at the opening before falling back towards the close under fresh selling pressure although bargain hunters are at work, as measured by our buying/selling index. Put/call ratios are improving as options traders are hedging their bets. Weekly sentiment indicators have improved, the bull to bear ratio among private investors is positive but the index measuring the risk appetite of active professional money managers is neutral, confirming our observation that bargain hunters are in the market. The list of new lows continues to expand on the NYSE and the Nasdaq. We expect the market to retest at least the lows of Monday before bouncing back in February.
